UF Notebook: Gators concerned about Tebow
Concerned about Tebow
A week ago, quarterback Tim Tebow was the favorite to win the HeismanTrophy, at least according to several online expert polls. But after the 42-30 loss to Georgia Saturday, Tim Tebow's chances are fading.
Tim Tebow now is ranked third, behind Boston College's Matt Ryan and Oregon's Dennis Dixon, in polls by ESPN and CBSsports.com.
But a bigger concern continues to be Tim Tebow's health. As long as he continues to be bothered by the bruised right shoulder, he won't be running the ball much - and his success as a dual-threat quarterback is what made him so attractive to Heisman voters. Tim Tebow was sacked six times and had minus-15 rushing yards against Georgia, the first time he has been in negative yardage in his career.
Coach Urban Meyer said Wednesday that Tim Tebow is feeling better now than he was before the Georgia game, not that his quarterback is letting on if he's still in pain.
"The hard thing about Tim is he's always fine," Meyer said. "He was not the same Tim Tebow last week against Georgia but he would never let on. Pain is not an issue with him but anybody that watched him, he was not the same as he was earlier in the year."
RB competition heats up
After a drive-ending fumble and a bobbled direct snap against Georgia, running back Kestahn Moore is in danger of losing his starting job.
Meyer said Monday the position is up for grabs at practice this week, with sophomore Brandon James the leading candidate to unseat Moore. Wide receivers Percy Harvin and Jarred Fayson also could receive more carries out of the backfield.
Injury update
Freshman free safety Major Wright, who broke his thumb against Kentucky, will play Saturday with a club on his right hand. Meyer said he wasn't sure, though, if Wright would start.
Receiver Riley Cooper, who did not dress because of a broken finger against Georgia, also will play Saturday.
