| Tebow One of 11 Finalists for Sullivan Award
Gainesville, FL Florida quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) is one of 11 finalists for the AAU James Sullivan Memorial Award, presented to the nation’s top amateur athlete.
Fans can cast their ballot at sports.usatoday.com or on their mobile phones. The fan votes count one-third toward the final tally. Voting ends March 10 and the winner will be announced April 1.
The Florida quarterback became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy after throwing for 3,286 yards and 32 touchdowns last season. Tebow also was the recipient of the Davey O'Brien and Maxwell awards.
He is the only player in NCAA history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in a season. His 55 touchdowns were the most in a season in school history. Tim Tebow also set the school single-season record for total offense with 3,970 yards as the Gators (9-4) finished No. 16 in the USA TODAY Coaches' Poll.
Tebow, who has done missionary work during his summers, has a 3.77 grade- point average as a major in family, youth and community sciences, and was an ESPN first-team Academic All-American.
The only other Florida athlete to receive the Sullivan Award was former swimmer Tracy Caulkins in 1978.
