Florida junior QB Tim Tebow has been chosen as this year's recipient of The Disney Spirit Award, given annually to college football's most inspirational figure.
Tebow will be presented the award during the ESPNU College Football Awards at the Atlantic Dance Hall at Walt Disney World on Dec. 11, five days after the Gators and Alabama play for the SEC title.
FLORIDA STATE: 'Noles hope to limit cold factor
When Florida State takes on Maryland Saturday in College Park it could be the coldest conditions the Seminoles have played in this season. Temperatures could drop to as low as 25 degrees Saturday evening, and FSU QB Christian Ponder said that playing in the cold has an effect on the players.
"It's very different," said Ponder, who has thrown for 1,604 yards and 11 TDs this season.
"The balls are dry, they're pumped up more, your arm's freezing."
Ponder said he would keep loose on the sideline, and that he expected the weather's influence to wear off once the game got underway.
FSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher had some advice about dealing with the cold for Ponder.
"Just make sure you lick your fingers," Fisher said.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC: Stats reflex Owls' turnaround
Statistics can be deceiving at times, but when looking for the reasons Florida Atlantic has been able to crawl back to .500 after starting the season 1-5, the numbers tell the story.
During its four-game win streak, FAU (5-5, 3-2 Sun Belt) has averaged 212 yards per game rushing, after managing just 107.7 through the first six.
Leading the charge is senior running back Charles Pierre, who is averaging 131.5 yards in the win streak.
CENTRAL FLORIDA: Knights aim to deny Memphis a bowl bid
The buzz at Memphis is all about the 5-5 Tigers reaching a bowl game.
Memphis even has an outside shot at tying for the Conference USA Eastern Division title if East Carolina takes a few more spills.
"They got a lot riding on the game up there and we certainly do too as far as basically finishing out our season the way you want," UCF Coach George O'Leary said.
